My son, Nathan, loves to bake! This is a simple crust that he uses for all pies. It is wonderful because it has no lard or shortening!
- 1-1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoons sugar
- 8 tablespoons cold butter (1 stick), cut into small pieces
- 4 to 5 tablespoons ice water
Mix together flour, salt and sugar in a large bowl. Add butter pieces and mix until crumbly.
Add 4 tablespoons individually and mix until the dough comes together (Add the 5th tablespoon of water if necessary). Do not overwork the dough or it can become tough.
Shape the dough into a flat disk, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
When ready to use, cut in half if you need a bottom and top crust. Roll on floured surface.
