French Breakfast Puffs

My sister, Susan, has been making these since I was a little girl and they have become a Christmas morning tradition.

  • 1/3 cup butter (5-1/3 Tbs.)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2  cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1-1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 Tbs. cinnamon
  • 6 Tbs. melted butter

Heat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix butter, sugar, and egg.  In a separate bowl stir together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.  Mix together with butter mixture, alternating with milk.

Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full.  Bake 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.  Roll in melted butter, then in sugar cinnamon mixture.
