As I was growing up, my mom always made Sour Cream Cinnamon Coffee Cake. It was one of my favorite things that she made. After she died, my dad continued to make it for me every year on my birthday. After he died, my son continues to make it. His is a little different as he doesn’t like nuts. It’s best with the nuts, but if he is making it I can’t complain.
First Part – Batter
|1 cup butter||1/2 tsp. baking soda|
|1-1/2 cups sugar||1-1/2 tsp. baking powder|
|2 eggs||1 tsp. vanilla|
|1 cup sour cream||2 cups flour|
Second Part – Topping
3/4 cup chopped nuts
2 Tbs. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
Combine butter, sugar, and eggs in a large bowl. Beat until light and fluffy. Blend in sour cream. In a separate bowl, stir flour with soda and baking powder and then add to cream mixture. Add vanilla and blend well. Spoon half of mixture in a 9″ tube pan (buttered and floured) . Sprinkle half of cinnamon nut mixture over batter. Repeat.
Place in COLD oven, set to 350 degrees and bake 55 minutes.
