What are Essential Oils & Why Use Them?

Large Oil Lot What are Essential Oils & Why Use Them?
Managing a family or yourself can be difficult with all the advice that we receive from other family members, doctors, the media, and everyone you meet! When it comes to food and medicine, I’ve always been a believer that if God made it, it’s good!

That is not to say that science has created some wonderful, life saving, medicine. However, I think too often we take and trust everything that is prescribed to us. How often do you hear later that it causes complications or even death, and warnings will be added to the packaging! How are we supposed to know?

Essential oils are the natural, aromatic liquids that protect plants against disease, insects, and other environmental conditions. Their innate anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-depressant, immune supporting, and regenerative properties make them powerfully therapeutic and medicinal for humans as well.

Essential Oils have a unique ability to penetrate cell membranes and diffuse throughout the blood and tissues.  These particles are one of the only things small enough to cross the blood brain barrier.  In a world where most medicine is chemically produced, record numbers are now turning to essential oils – to improve health without exposure to the side effects of pharmacology.

Essential oils are used in many different ways:

  • Diffuse them in the air
  • Use for a chemical free home
  • Take them medicinally (only Young Living)
  • Apply them topically
  • Cook with them

From cooking and cleaning to pet care and home remedies, essential oils provide many alternatives to harsh chemical products, so you can create the healthy, all-natural environment your family deserves.

The Everyday Oil Collection – Our 10 Most Popular & Versatile Oils

The Everyday Oils Collection features versatile oils that families all around the world use every day to maintain vibrant health, enhance emotional well-being and create cleaner, safer homes!

It’s our family’s medicine cabinet!

Lavender – With its fresh, floral scent, Lavender is considered the most universal of all essential oils. Therapeutic-grade lavender oil is highly regarded as a skin and beauty tonic. It’s helpful for facial blemishes, and can also be used to soothe and cleanse common cuts, bruises, and skin irritations. Lavender helps the body to relax and enter a deep sleep when rubbed on the bottoms of the feet or inhaled at bedtime. It can also offer relief to sore muscles and muscle spasms, as well as boost stamina.

We use it first for burns, cuts, insect bites and I use it mixed with coconut oil for a moisturizer.   My son used to suffer from horrible sinus infections every 6 – 8 weeks due to allergies.  He started putting a couple drops behind his ears or on the bottom of his feet every day and hasn’t had a problem since!

Thieves – Founded on the legend of a group of 14th century French thieves who used cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims in order to stay immune, Thieves Blend is a powerhouse for your body’s defense system. Diffuse it to detoxify the air in your home, apply it topically to boost immunity, or take a few drops to eliminate germs that cause throat infections, or to relieve symptoms. Thieves is also a remarkable tool for dental care.

A few drops in a capsule supports your immune system, a few drops in your dishwasher cleans and eliminates odors, and diffusing it in the air can eliminate airborne bacteria.

Peppermint – Peppermint oil is hailed for supporting digestion. It’s also believed to improve metabolic efficiency and trigger feelings of fullness. Peppermint also has potent relief properties – headaches with a few drops on your temples, fever with a few drops on your neck and bottom of your feet, and muscles wherever there’s discomfort. Its fresh, minty aroma combats mental and physical fatigue, and can promote healthy respiratory function.

We use peppermint for headaches and for alertness and staying awake when need be.  It’s also great for cooking.

Frankincense – Frankincense has been used by nearly every ancient culture for thousands of years. When rubbed on the chest, it gently soothes the respiratory system. Breathing Frankincense can also be beneficial for memory function thanks to its highly oxygenating molecules that also eliminate unwanted airborne germs. Its earthy balsamic scent has calming properties that can increase spirituality and inner strength. For timeless skin, use a few drops in your facial moisturizer.

We use Frankincense to dissolve cysts, respiratory issues, and so many other issues.

Peace & Calming – Peace & Calming® is a gentle, fragrant blend. When diffused, it helps calm tensions and uplift the spirit, promoting relaxation and a deep sense of peace. When massaged on the bottoms of the feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night’s rest. Peace & Calming may be especially calming and comforting to young children after an overactive and stressful day.

We like to use Peace & Calming at the end of the day to help with rest and it has worked great for crazy puppies!

Purification – Purification® can be used directly on the skin to cleanse and soothe insect bites, cuts, and scrapes. When diffused, it helps to purify and cleanse the air from environmental impurities including cigarette smoke and other disagreeable odors.

We diffuse this to eliminate odors and I use it all the time for issues with our beagle’s ear.

Lemon – Lemon (Citrus limon) has a strong, purifying, citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting. Lemon consists of 68 percent dlimonene, a powerful antioxidant. It is delightfully refreshing in water and may be beneficial for the skin. Lemon may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods. Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of lemons. Jean Valnet MD estimated that it takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of oil. In his book, The Practice of Aromatherapy, Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system.*

We use lemon for so many things!  A couple drops in water first thing in the morning, removing stains, disinfecting, and laundry.  The uses are endless!

PanAway – Young Living President Gary Young created PanAway after a severe injury to the ligaments in his leg. This proprietary blend of soothing essential oils contains wintergreen, clove, peppermint, and helichrysum and can help ease bone, muscle, back, and join discomfort when rubbed on the affected area. PanAway aids the body’s natural response to irritation and injury.

Valor – The blend of spruce, blue tansy, rosewood and frankincense supports the muscular skeletal system of the body, earning much respect from chiropractors who apply it before and after an adjustment. Valor has been known to help those who suffer from stage fright, anxiety, and extreme tension, by rubbing a few drops onto the hands and breathing deeply. To create a deeper sleep, rub on the bottoms of your feet before bed.

We use Valor also for calming pets and it helps tremendously for snoring.

Joy – Joy™ is a luxuriously exotic blend with uplifting overtones that creates magnetic energy and brings joy to the heart. When worn as cologne or perfume, Joy exudes an alluring and irresistible fragrance that inspires romance and togetherness. When diffused, it can be refreshing and uplifting.
